• Insurance This EEP also has the ambition to function as a modest part of a global insurance population, including the AZA population, as well as ex situ populations in Madagascar, which through translocation with the fragmented in situ population could then again function as part of a global metapopulation. • Ex situ research (outside range): The ex situ population in AZA and EAZA region will be used to gain husbandry experience and optimize animal management and the knowledge can be exchanged to support the organisations working on the in and ex situ populations in Madagascar where needed. The cooperation will work both ways with the EEP learning about in particular diet and behaviour. • Conservation Education (outside range): The ex situ population has potential to educate local communities on the plight of the species. |

• Fundraising Providing financial support to sifaka conservation programmes. |

• Taxonomic uniqueness The ex situ population has potential to educate visitors about the taxonomical and ecological diversity of prosimians and primates. The Coquerel’s sifaka can be used for highlighting a unique appearance and species-specific behaviour. |
In January 2024, the Coquerel´s sifaka EEP had 6 animals in 3 institutions.
