The Hamadryas baboon does not have any specific conservation roles. Rather the Hamadryas baboon population is managed as EEP to maintain and ideally decrease population size and to avoid space competition with Guinea baboons and other species with important conservation roles. In order to further improve the welfare of the Hamadryas baboons the EEP is increasing group sizes and reducing the number of institutions that hold smaller groups sizes.
In August 2021, Hamadryas baboon EEP had 948 animals in 37 institutions.
