• Education/Ambassador The ex situ population can act as an ambassador for threatened callitrichid species and used as an opportunity to inform the public on the challenges threatened callitrichids are facing in situ (e.g. pet trade in Asia). |
|
• Education This species is the smallest monkey in the world, has a high evolutionary distinctiveness among callitrichids and can be used to share information about callitrichid biology. • Exhibit The species is a popular exhibit species (active animals, smallest monkey) and gives EAZA institutions the opportunity to gain experience with callitrichid management as well as in managing mixed species exhibits (and to preserve this knowledge and maintain staff experience in mixed exhibits). |
In December 2020, the Pygmy marmoset EEP had 445 animals in 98 institutions.
